As a school psychologist, you help your students achieve both academic and personal success all year long. For this reason and so many others, everyone here at PPR would like to wish all our amazing traveling school psychologists a happy 2019 School Psychology Awareness Week!
Sponsored by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), this annual event takes place November 11-15, 2019, with a “Find Your Focus” theme. According to the NASP website, this year’s theme “can have a variety of meanings such as paying attention, being able to see an idea more clearly, identifying an area of interest, or being persistent and determined in one’s effort.”
With that in mind, we’d like to offer the following ways you can celebrate 2019 School Psychology Awareness Week and highlight the important work you do:
You can help your students find their focus by bringing the celebration into the classroom and/or the counseling room. If you’re looking for some ideas on how to do this, NASP has these helpful resources and engaging activities for students of all ages.
This is your week to let your community know what you do! In this age of social media, it’s also incredibly easy to do with a simple Instagram picture, a Facebook post, or a tweet. Who knows? You could inspire someone you know or spark a conversation with a friend about the work you do.
Finally, don’t forget to give yourself a pat on the back! You work hard every day to help your students thrive, and you deserve a little TLC. Do something just for yourself—enjoy a delicious meal out with friends or co-workers, recharge with some much-needed quiet time, or give yourself a special treat. Plus, you could go the extra mile by bringing in breakfast and coffee for your colleagues during the week too.
No matter how you decide to celebrate, we hope you have a wonderful 2019 School Psychology Awareness Week!
